An official consolation letter from Korean Mathematical Society and Korea Association of Mathematical Societies(2011/03/16)

The Mathematical Society of Japan received an official consolation letter from Korean Mathematical Society and Korea Association of Mathematical Societies addressed to the mathematicians and mathematics educators in Japan.

March 16, 2011

Dear mathematicians and mathematics educators in Japan,

Given the tremendous calamity Japan is experiencing, driven by the recent earthquake and tsunami, the mathematicians and mathematics educators of Korea would like to offer warm words of consolation from the bottom of our hearts. We hope that the loss of lives and finances is minimized.

Despite nature's most devastating events, we have been very impressed by the Japanese people, who have kept public order and helped their neighbors before helping themselves. We are sure that Japan will overcome this hardship with indomitable willpower and even make great strides, as she has done against many difficulties.

Mathematicians and mathematics educators in Korea have a feeling of kinship for our friends and colleagues in Japan and share your acute grief. We pray that Japan recovers from this difficulty as soon as possible.

Sincerely Yours, Dong Youp SUH
President of
Korean Mathematical Society and
Korean Association of Mathematical Societies
