Developments of the theory of viscosity solutions for nonlinear partial differential equations

The notion of viscous solutions for partial differential equations has been nearly 40 years since M. G. Crandall and P.-L. Lions introduced it. In this lecture, I will give a brief overview of the history of this theory, and also give two examples of the application of viscous solution theory to the asymptotic problem of differential equations and the feedback to that theory, which I have been interested in recently.
